gong[note 1] is an East and Southeast Asian musical percussion instrument that takes the form of a flat, circular metal disc which is hit with a mallet.

The earliest mention of gongs can be found in sixth century Chinese records, which mentioned the instrument to have came from the Western Regions (a region convering modern day Tibet, Xinjiang, and Central Asia). The term gong (Javaneseκ¦’ꦺꦴꦁ) originated in the Indonesian island of Java. Scientific and archaeological research has established that BurmaChinaJava (Indonesia) and Annam were the four main gong manufacturing centres of the ancient world.[1] The gong found its way into the Western World in the 18th century when it was also used in the percussion section of a Western-style symphony orchestra. A form of bronze cauldron gong known as a resting bell was widely used in ancient Greece and Rome, for instance in the famous Oracle of Dodona, where disc gongs were also used.[2][3]

Music Inspiration:

The sound of the 62" Earth Gong takes you immediately on a deep journey. The drop and the ocean, a symphony of symphonies, the sound of creation itself. One single stroke slowly builds into a never-ending rhapsody of overtones, an enchanting song in waves of beauty which touch your heart and soul taking you beyond the beyond… in the great Gong tone of life that reverberates within us... The lower frequencies begin at 60 Hz - very low, deep, physically piercing frequencies; an endless fountain from the heart of the earth; a vibration which we feel in every cell of our body. Perfect for large groups of participants. Player - Tom Soltron Czartoryski - Tone of Life
