"The Praemium Imperiale is a global arts prize awarded annually by the Japan Art Association. Since its inauguration in 1988, it has become a mark of the arts.

Six nomination committees, each chaired by an International Advisor, propose candidates in five fields: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Theatre/Film."





Hanako, Princess Hitachi (正仁親王妃華子, Masahito Shinnōhi Hanako) (born Hanako Tsugaru (津軽華子, Tsugaru Hanako); 19 July 1940), is a member of the Japanese Imperial Family as the wife of Masahito, Prince Hitachi, who is the younger son of Emperor Shōwa and the only brother of Emperor Emeritus Akihito.

Honorary International Advisor David Rockefeller Jr. gave a speech during the celebration of the 34th Praemium Imperiale Awards at the White House. Mr. Rockefeller is the former chairman of Rockefeller & Company and continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science, and a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Mr. Rockefeller has long been involved with the Praemium Imperiale Awards, previously serving as International Advisor from 1991 to 2000.
